Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative movement disorder caused by the gradual loss of dopamine-producing cells in the brain. It affects approximately one million people in the United States and ten million worldwide, with prevalence projected to increase significantly over the coming decades due to aging global populations.
While medical consultations are critical for establishing care and adjusting prescriptions, these appointments occur infrequently—often separated by months or even years.
The Surveillance Gap
This creates a critical surveillance gap, a period during which patients and family caregivers are left to manage complex, fluctuating symptoms without direct clinical oversight. Day-to-day symptom severity can vary considerably based on factors like stress, fatigue, and the timing of medication doses.
Without systematic monitoring during this gap, subtle functional declines—such as emerging fall risks, non-motor disruptions, or medication wearing-off episodes—frequently go unrecorded until a major complication arises.
Closing the Gap
CareApp and its Tracking Dashboard aims to bridge this surveillance gap by allowing patients and caregivers to continuously record daily vitals, routines, and symptom changes in a single interface between doctor visits.
